What Can I Expect at My Pre-cycle Evaluation?
A pre-cycle evaluation aims to identify underlying causes of infertility and ensure you’re physically and emotionally ready for the process. Find out why these tests play an essential role in customizing your IVF treatment plan.

Starting fertility treatment is a major step. Before you begin, you’ll need a series of diagnostic tests and assessments called pre-cycle screening to establish your readiness for in vitro fertilization (IVF).

Our team of fertility specialists at Effortless IVF™ conduct pre-cycle evaluations to help rule out reasons for infertility, like sperm abnormalities or uterine issues like scarring or fibroids. The results of these tests can help us make the best decisions for your treatment.

By customizing the IVF treatment to meet your unique needs, these tests not only provide information about your fertility status, but also raise the likelihood of a successful IVF cycle.

Why is a pre-cycle evaluation important?

Before beginning an Effortless IVF™ cycle, it’s essential to gain insight into your fertility health. The pre-cycle evaluation allows our team to identify any factors that could impact treatment outcomes and ensure that your body is prepared for the next phase of care.

We use diagnostic testing and imaging to tailor treatment to each patient. This thorough evaluation is part of our commitment to providing affordable, effective, and compassionate fertility care.

Hormone testing and AMH measurements

One of the first steps in the evaluation process is measuring anti-müllerian hormone (AMH) levels. AMH helps us estimate the number of eggs in your ovaries (ovarian reserve).

These hormone levels give our fertility specialists important insight into how your ovaries may respond to stimulation medications during treatment. The results also help determine the appropriate medication protocol for your cycle.

Patients under the age of 40 need two AMH tests completed within six months of treatment. Patients older than 40 require this test within the previous three months.

Hysterosalpingogram (HSG)

A hysterosalpingogram (HSG) is an imaging test that examines the uterus and fallopian tubes. During the procedure, contrast dye is inserted through the cervix while X-ray images are taken.

This test helps identify potential blockages or abnormalities that could interfere with conception or embryo implantation. Patients need an HSG completed within 24 months before beginning IVF treatment.

Hysteroscopy

As part of your evaluation, our team may recommend a hysteroscopy to get a closer look inside the uterus. This helps us identify anything that could interfere with implantation or a healthy pregnancy, such as scar tissue, polyps, or other structural concerns.

The timing of this test depends on your age. Patients younger than 35 should have a hysteroscopy completed within 12 months of treatment, while patients aged 35 and older need one within the previous six months.

Pelvic sonogram and antral follicle count

A pelvic sonogram gives our team valuable information about your reproductive health and helps us better understand how your body may respond to treatment. During the ultrasound, we’ll look at your uterus and ovaries and perform an antral follicle count (AFC), which helps estimate your remaining egg supply.

This imaging can also reveal conditions like fibroids or endometrial polyps that may lower the chances of a successful pregnancy. If we find anything that could affect your outcome, we’ll talk through your options for next steps, including whether treatment or a corrective procedure is recommended before moving forward.

Semen analysis

As part of the assessment, male partners or sperm donors will also undergo tests. Effortless IVF™ performs computer-assisted semen analysis (CASA), which provides highly accurate measurements of sperm count, motility, and semen volume. Two semen analyses completed within six months are required before IVF treatment starts.

Guidance toward the next steps

After your pre-cycle evaluation is complete, our team reviews your results with you and explains the recommended treatment plan. Your pre-cycle evaluation is the foundation for building a personalized path that offers the greatest chances of success.
