Understanding How the INVOcell Device Works
The INVOcell® device merges science and technology with the body’s natural ability to incubate and develop an embryo. Here’s how it works, and how it supports the effortless IVF process.

Our goal at Effortless IVF in Fort Worth and Bedford, Texas, is to make the in-vitro fertilization (IVF) process more natural, accessible, and cost-effective for our patients.

Our seasoned fertility specialists, Dr. Kevin Doody and Dr. Kathleen Doody, are proud to offer effortless IVF with the INVOcell® device — an approach that eliminates the need for incubators, expensive lab work, and multiple doctor’s appointments, and reduces the use of medications. Here’s what you need to know about how the INVOcell device works.

What is INVOcell?

INVOcell is a fertility device that offers a unique approach to in-vitro fertilization — and makes the effortless IVF method possible. Unlike conventional IVF, where fertilization occurs in a laboratory setting, the INVOcell device leverages the body's natural environment to support embryo development. This makes the process more organic and reduces the associated costs of standard IVF.

How does the INVOcell device work?

The effortless IVF procedure using the INVOcell device can be broken down into a few straightforward steps:

1. Stimulation and retrieval of eggs

Like traditional IVF, the first step in effortless IVF involves stimulating the ovaries to produce multiple eggs. Once they’re mature, we retrieve these eggs from the ovaries.

But instead of requiring several sonograms and monitoring appointments for egg retrieval like traditional IVF, the simplified effortless IVF procedure uses a single stimulation sonogram on the 10th day of the cycle to determine which day to retrieve the eggs.

2. Sperm collection

A sperm sample is collected from the male partner or a donor, which is then prepared in a lab to ensure that only the healthiest and most motile sperm are used for fertilization.

3. Combining eggs and sperm

Instead of using an external lab incubator, the retrieved eggs and prepared sperm are placed inside the sterile INVOcell device, which we then seal shut.

4. Natural incubation

Next, we insert the sealed INVOcell device into the vagina, which acts as a natural incubator. Here, fertilization occurs, and embryos develop over the next few days. The INVOcell device capitalizes on the body's ability to provide the optimal temperature and environment for initial embryo development and growth.

5. Embryo transfer

After a specified period — typically five days — we remove the device and transfer the developed embryo(s) into the uterus.

What makes INVOcell unique?

Several factors set the INVOcell device apart from traditional IVF. For many couples, the idea that their embryo development occurs within the body offers a more personal and intimate connection to the process than traditional IVF.

With the INVOcell device, a reduced reliability on expensive laboratory equipment and fewer interventions also helps keep the process more affordable than conventional IVF, making it accessible to more couples looking to become parents.

Simply put, by merging the science of assisted reproductive technology with the body's natural capabilities, effortless IV with the INVOcell device offers a unique, personal, and cost-effective alternative to traditional IVF.
