What is reciprocal IVF?

Reciprocal IVF allows both partners in a same-sex female couple to participate physically in the creation of their child (co-maternity). One partner contributes the eggs, and the other carries the pregnancy, an option that brings shared meaning to the experience of conception.

The spouse who decides to use their eggs receives ovarian stimulation in preparation for egg retrieval. After the eggs have been retrieved and fertilized with donor sperm, the resulting embryos are implanted in the carrying partner.

With Effortless IVF™, this is done using the INVOcell® device, which enables fertilization and embryo development to take place inside the body, rather than in a traditional lab incubator.

How does the Effortless IVF™ process work?

It all begins with personalized fertility evaluations for both partners to assess overall reproductive health and eligibility for the procedure. Once cleared, the partner providing the eggs begins a cycle of hormone injections to stimulate the ovaries.

After the eggs are retrieved, they’re combined with donor sperm and placed into the INVOcell, which is then inserted into the partner who will carry the pregnancy. The device remains in place for about five days, creating a natural environment for embryo development. After removal, the healthiest embryo is selected and transferred into the uterus.
